Optical bonding is an elegant, high-performance technique. It brings many benefits to your displays. LCDIS has been an expert in this technique since 2004.
The most common reason for wanting an optically bonded display is outdoor use. The operating environment hardens and legibility is no longer guaranteed. You may also need to harden a display.
Here are the main advantages of optical bonding:
Better light transmission (adaptation of the optical indices of the different materials).
Lower operating temperature (elimination of the air gap).
Prevents condensation, mould and dust.
Reduces unwanted reflections and refraction (maintains the intrinsic contrast of your display).
Hardens the display (dissipates some of the impact energy).
Improved thermal management (heat dissipation in the bonded material).
Significant improvement in legibility (AR, AG or ARAG surface treatments).
Simplified integration. Most of the time, the display is mechanically held in place by the force of optical bonding.
Optical bonding is very useful for high luminosity displays. Contrary to popular belief, high luminosity is not enough to guarantee legibility.
Durable optical bonding requires extensive technical knowledge. It also requires a precise analysis of why you need it. It is not possible to use a single adhesive chemistry and a single process and hope to be able to respond to every situation. The analysis will determine
the thickness of the bond
the adhesive to be used
the horizontal/vertical gravity or injection process
the sealing of the bezel
the use of spacers
The nature of the adhesive (wet air cure, UV cure, vacuum cure, etc.).
LCDIS has the experience required for OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive, or dry bonding) and OCR (Optically Clear Resin, or wet/liquid bonding) processes. LCDIS can therefore address consumer, industrial, medical, automotive and military applications.
The optical bonding technique makes it possible to stack different functional layers, for example:
Display + protective glass
Display + EMI mesh + protective glass
Display + touch panel

Display + infrared or UV filter + protective glass
